Casambi, a Finnish wireless lighting control expert, contributed its technology to enable Sedus, a German office equipment provider, produce workplace lighting that improves user well-being.

In April 2019, Sedus unveiled its new office building in Dogern, Germany, with the goal of creating an open office to exhibit a smart working environment of the future. Based on the concept, the workplace is outfitted with adaptable and smart solutions to give a perfect environment for concentration and cooperation. Lighting is so crucial in the smart office.

The lighting at the Sedus workplace changes strength and color temperature with time, as sunshine varies throughout the day and from season to season, thanks to smart management from Casambi. This continuous, non-synchronized movement of tiny groups of luminaires at extremely short intervals (such as every 8 minutes) results in a whole sensation of well-being for individuals who work in the area, as every specified light hue is captured by the skin and eyes as in a real forest.

RGBW luminaires combined with adjustable white and natural light produce a variety of lighting scenarios that replicate natural illumination such as sunset, dawn, overcast weather, sparkle, and reflection. The temporal dynamics are defined by Fibonacci number sequences. The project promotes the circadian rhythm and is experimental in terms of light change temporal dynamics.

Sedus may use Casambi's wireless lighting control to establish programs for each individual area and room in the smart workplace, as well as define a daily and seasonal dynamic change of light hue and color temperature.
